Creamer hangs on for fourth win in '08

10/05/2008 - Half Moon Bay, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Paula Creamer closed with a three-under 69 Sunday to fend off Song-Hee Kim to win the Samsung World Championship.

Creamer, who picked up her fourth win of the season and eighth of her LPGA Tour career, finished the event at nine-under-par 279.

"So much went on this week. To be able to come out here in front of everybody that supported me, it's a good win," said an emotional Creamer, who grew up in nearby Pleasanton, California.

Song-Hee Kim birdied three straight holes from the 12th, but she could only par the final four holes to end one back at minus-eight after a final-round, four-under 68.

Lorena Ochoa, who won this event the last two years, also closed with a 69 at the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links to end in a tie for third at seven-under-par 281.

"I gave myself a chance," Ochoa stated. "It didn't happen. I had a rough start today with two bogeys on the front. No complaints, though, and hopefully I do better next week."

Ochoa was joined in third place by two-time winner here Juli Inkster (68), Angela Stanford (70) and Suzann Pettersen (68).

Creamer birdied the second to move two shots clear of Stanford. Creamer rolled in a six-foot birdie putt on the fifth to move to minus-eight.

After nine straight pars, Creamer was suddenly tied for the lead with Kim.

Kim birdied two and eight. She dropped shots at nine and 11, but birdied the 10th in between. She poured in three straight birdies from the 12th, capped by a chip-in birdie at 14, to join Creamer at minus-eight.

Creamer responded with a birdie on the par-four 15th to regain the lead. She parred 16 and 17 to maintain her one-shot lead.

At the last, Creamer had 30 feet for birdie, but ran that by the hole. She saved par from four feet to seal the win. Creamer played the final 37 holes at minus-eight with eight birdies and no bogeys.

"I've always said I wanted to win in front of my hometown fans and those that have supported me from when I was a little girl," said Creamer, who earned $250,000 for the win. "It means a lot to come and win here."

Kim could only par the final four holes to end alone in second place.

Katherine Hull took seventh place at six-under-par 282 after a closing 70. Eun-Hee Ji (67) and Ji-Yai Shin (70) ended one shot back at minus-five.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
