10/21/2008 - St. Petersburg, Russia (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Second-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko and 2007 runner-up Fernando Verdasco were among Tuesday's first- round winners at the $1.49 million St. Petersburg Open.

Davydenko nailed down his 50th match win of the year by handling big-serving Aussie Chris Guccione 6-4, 6-4. The speedy Russian has now won at least 50 matches in each of the last four seasons.

Up next for Davydenko will be fellow Russian Michail Elgin.

A third-seeded Verdasco, meanwhile, fought back to beat Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 on the indoor carpet SCC Peterburgsky. The Spanish Verdasco succumbed to British star Andy Murray in last year's finale here.

Fourth-seeded Russian favorite Mikhail Youzhny advanced with a 6-2, 6-1 shellacking of Spaniard Ivan Navarro, while upsets came when qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan took out fifth-seeded Croat Marin Cilic 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) and France's Jeremy Chardy dismissed seventh-seeded Croat Mario Ancic 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Youzhny titled here back in 2004, while Ancic was the titlist two years ago.

Rising Latvian Ernests Gulbis whipped Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-0, 6-2, while tough Serb Janko Tipsarevic handled Italian Potito Starace 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Additional first-round wins came for the wild card Elgin, Latvian wild card Karlis Lejnieks and German qualifier Mischa Zverev.

On Wednesday, a top-seeded Murray will take on Serb Viktor Troicki and former world No. 1 Marat Safin of Russia will encounter Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in a pair of first-rounders. The U.S. Open runner-up Murray is fresh off his title at last week's Madrid Masters. Safin was the back-to-back St. Petersburg champ in 2000 and 2001.

The 2008 titlist here will collect $171,000.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
